Just rewatched "Keep Calm and Flutter On" and, wow, it reminded how morally fucked this episode was to me. The idea of redemption drove the whole episode. Redemption is a typical christian and humanistic value. But applied to Discord, it seems so... cruel. I wouldn't force anyone to redeem himself if he didn't want to first. He was turned into stone for understandable reasons, menacing the peace and tranquility of ponies. It was his prison. But someday, Celestia decided for the sake of mercy to release him on one condition: that of to be "reformed" by Fluttershy, read, that of not to be himself anymore. Imagine you were in jail and I proposed you freedom in exchange of a psychiatric treatment that would change your personality forever and destroy what made life enjoyable for you. Would you accept it? There's no typical answer to that question, especially in life situations. But in the case of a fictional character as Discord, it's terrible to see such a strong character dumbed down that way, because the writers couldn't find a politically correct way to let him free without screwing things up as he did before. Lame writing is lame. Now just a little song for you: The lunatic is in my head The lunatic is in my head You raise the blade, you make the change You re-arrange me 'till I'm sane You lock the door And throw away the key There's someone in my head but it's not me. ITT: KCFO and other episodes that morally challenged you.
