ITT: someone who thinks that pure logic will solve all problems. You know, some time ago, someone (followed by many others) somehow used logic to conclude that he had to put Yurop upside-down to pursue his dream of a bland, pure world. You can't escape logic. As soon as you open your mouth, logic runs your speech, as senseless it may sound. Logic is only the structure of speech, the truth of the speech contents is up to judgment, not logical analysis. With logical analysis, you can only conclude about the possibility of truth, not the truth itself. About the truth of facts, only you can judge. -- Well obviously The idea that freedom of speech is a positive thing is in itself a moral judgement. Sure we can logically extrapolate many consequences of freedom of speech that we consider desirable But the idea that those things are desirable is also a judgement, not a logical extrapolation. >ITT: someone who thinks that pure logic will solve all problems. I would personally argue that OP's grasp on logic is tenuous at best -- >I would personally argue that OP's grasp on logic is tenuous at best Particularly, there's some sort of attitude towards problems that I'd like to point out. For example: - we have a problem P - X did things that implies P - remove X, so that P will be solved I can assure you that in most concrete cases, P will still be there, we can't know for sure all its premises. Being a feminist, a fascist or an atheist is not wrong in itself, but using this kind of reasoning is just too dangerous and will probably solve nothing. Removing religions won't stop people from being jerks, removing Jews won't stop people from being greedy, removing Molestia won't stop rape.
